The culture I understood the most this year was the French. When learning about the French Revolution, we took more time to talk about the way the people of France thought and how it was different than the Royal Family. We learned how the rich spent their money on huge castles with thinking houses to go to when stressed and hallways made of complete gold. We also learned how calf muscles were the way of showing great masculinity in those days. It was interesting to see how the population was split up into three estates. I was put in a group that was in charge of researching the 3rd estate. This assignment really helped me understand what the common people of the country had to go through with almost no power against the first and second estates who were "friends" of sorts.
These are images are the Instagram page my group created to display a personal connection with a member of the third estate. Most posts are agree, talking about how unfair the government could be. Projects like these where media sites are used really help connect us students to the old times. Although we could never be able to feel what these French Commoners were feeling, we were able to show how they felt through something that only were are familiar with.
