My growth in appreciating others for their differences has grown this year because of all the different disputes about religion we learned. With most genocides we discussed, it was one religion killing the other because of their differences, the most well known, German Christians against the Jews. Another example of this is in the book "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe that sophomores read in English. The main character was a believer in the Igbo religion. This was a polytheistic religion that believed everything was controlled by the gods. They had a "Chi" who was their personal god that agreed with what they agreed with. Then, British Christians came to Nigeria and started colonizing the country. The British killed a lot of villagers just because of their difference in religion. Learning about all of these differences helped me appreciate them defiantly. Although some people could not accept that others were different than them, I do. This book and research helped me see the differences and similarities between all types of religions and cultures.
This gallery of photos is to show how all these pictures contain people of different religions in them who all look happy. If these people can be so happy about what they believe in, why would anyone ever want to take that away from them, even if it is different than what makes you happy.
